Mr. Becker’s lifelong friend, Bob Barnum, said owning the station fueled John’s passion to keep the town informed. Longtime friend Harry Keleshian said his community looked up to Mr. Becker, who had a great understanding of people. "There was always praise from John. And it was always special and unique coming from a man of that stature."

John was also a supporter of various local organizations, including the Greenwich Family YMCA, Greenwich Historical Society, Bruce Museum, United Way of Greenwich and Greenwich Hospital. Mr. & Mrs. Becker were also the founding benefactors of Eurpac’s John & Sheila Becker Scholarship Program.
